American Corner
İzmir University of Economics
The American Corners concept was developed by the Bureau of International Information Programs of the U.S. Department of State, with the purpose of providing access to the relevant information sources about American culture, history and educational system. American corners have been set up in chambers of commerce, or in public libraries.
Following the opening of the first American Corner in Russia, Turkey has been the second country in the world where American Corners were established. Today, around 300 American Corners have been set up in many countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America. There are currently five American Corners in Turkey: Izmir, Bursa, Kayseri and Erzurum.
The Izmir American Corner, which has been set up in our university library, aims to provide information on the US culture and educational system to our own students, and to the public of Izmir and surrounding regions.

Foreign Policy in the first year of the Obama Administration

Walter Russell Mead, one of the foremost experts on US Foreign Policy, will speak at Izmir University of Economics on Friday November 20, 2009 at 2 PM.
Mr. Mead will speak about Foreign Policy in the first year of the Obama Administration.
Mr. Mead currently is the Henry A. Kissinger Senior Fellow for U.S. Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. His speech will be open to the public and press.
